I have to say as a Decorated Marine veteran who has many experiences with different Doctors, I’m disappointed by the lack of empathy and consideration by Dr Burzon and his team. They were great in the beginning when I was diagnosed with Chromophobe Renal Cell Carcinoma a rare cancer, and worked with Dr Fam and Dr Lake cohesively bc I was also diagnosed with Colon cancer which was all diagnosed after a colonoscopy in 2024. I have been through genetic testing and worked with the VA to determine where I could have developed this rare cancer and the colon cancer as well. Well, we were able to eliminate through genetic testing that it wasn’t hereditary and the VA has conceded that I was a veteran who served in the Gulf War era and was exposed to toxins being around Burn pits and as an aerial gunner on a CH-53E, I was exposed to fumes and toxic fluids like JP5 and hydraulic fluids and asbestos. Once again the VA conceded that. I was asked by the VA to get a Nexus letter signed by my physician and when I presented the letter to Dr Burzon, without even reading the file, the letter from the VA or the instructions, he made a decision that he was not going to assist me with getting VA entitlements. He conceded that he could not rule out that the cancer could have come from my time in service but he was not willing to sign the document or give an opinion none the less. I tried to explain to him what I needed but he just dismissed me and asked that I leave the folder for him to reviews and he would let me know in a week. I called back in a week since I did not hear from him and his staff notified me that he was away and would not be back for another week. Which tells me he never was going to look at my medical records or file. Like many people who don’t understand the difficulties of a veteran, I was dismissed and sent away. So I contacted his office and asked for his physician assistant to review and she read me the notes of Dr Burzon the day of my appointment where he stated he would not sign off with no explanation. I urged them to take a second look and she promised me she would talk to him but clearly stated it was not her decision. It would be up to Dr Burzon. Well I received a letter from his office today and he has informed me that as of 8/11/2025 he will no longer be able to treat me as a patient. Any future appointments have been canceled. Urged that since my condition required continued medical attention with a Urologist, he suggested that I place myself under the care of another Urologist without delay. Mind you my last visit I waited patiently an hour and 15 min past my scheduled time, I asked him respectfully to review my file and waited patiently both times to get a response and this is what I received, a termination letter. As I said, I served my country with honor, he was the only urologist I saw and was cared by. I did everything they ask of me to do. I followed his orders to a “T”. I don’t understand why he took such a strong stance not to help. To this day I will be left scrambling to find another Urologist that will work hand in hand with my colorectal surgeon and oncologist and I will have to start my journey all over again bc this Dr had a problem when asked by a veteran to assist. If you are a veteran I would warn you to think twice about choosing Dr Burzon. I’m completely disappointed in his service, his lack of empathy and care. I will be looking for another urologist and will keep you posted as I continue my fight against cancer and against physicians who treat not only their patients like this but most importantly Veterans. This is why I’m giving him a 1 star rating if I could give him a zero star rating I would. Semper Fi
