My child’s doctor prescribed a device for treatment of a medical condition, and the prescription was sent to CoAssist Pharmacy. CoAssist repeatedly told us our insurance “does not cover” the treatment, but they never submitted a claim or contacted the insurer for confirmation.
During multiple calls with our insurance, I was repeatedly told that the treatment is covered. At no point did CoAssist mention that prior authorization might be required; they simply insisted it wasn’t covered. In fact, even once claiming that they had spoken directly with my insurance rep, using the reference number I gave (and my subsequent call revealed they had not). Only when pressed by my insurer did they eventually acknowledge that prior authorization could be needed.
This process delayed treatment, took many hours of my time, and caused unnecessary frustration. Families should know that CoAssist’s “coverage check” is not the same as an actual claim and may not reflect your insurance’s current policies.
CoAssist’s handling of this prescription and communication with insurers was inaccurate, opaque, and dismissive.
